This painting was a total surprise for me. Once again this is not what I had planned. This was to be strictly a non representational abstract. I used lots of cool collage materials. Altered papers, mica flakes and metal leaf. Lots of layers of acrylic. It was a decent abstract but then my left brain took over again. I wanted to add a figure. I drew the man in the trench coat by combining 2 reference photos and my imagination. Then of coarse I just had to add the building and I just had to make it brick. "I'll just make impressions of bricks", I told myself. This would have been fine if the building was in the background. For me it had become a main feature though, so the impressions were not working. I know from past experience that bricks are not easy to do (at least for me!) The angles seem backwards & change drastically. I used a photo that I took last year from an alleyway near where I lived. I got out my paint covered ruler and went to town! After a few failed attempts I seemed to find my groove and my building came to life. I am happy with this piece. You can bid on it at My DPW Auction! or contact me at Donna's E-Mail. Spending tomorrow with my 2 sisters; YAY!!! Have a great weekend, wherever you end up and thanks for visiting my blog!
